GMP launches an equestrian team
Can you bring any horse power?
There are a number of sport and social events that are organised within GMP, but one that the force has never delved into is the equestrian sector. Supt. Estelle Mathieson is looking to change that and has started a GMP equestrian team to represent the force at different events around the country.
You don't have to own a horse to get involved, but an interest in horses is a must. All disciplines are covered from eventing to showing and show-jumping to endurance.
The main aim of the group is to provide a fun and supportive environment for like-minded people and social events are high on the agenda for getting out and about.
As well as representing GMP while at competitions the group is really keen to include other areas of interest such as:
* Clinics
* Camps
* Mounted socials - e.g. pleasure rides
Police Sport UK
One of the aims for the team will be to compete in the Police Sport UK Equestrian Sector (PSUK). PSUK currently has 300,000 serving police officers, police staff, retired officers and staff, plus their immediate families and the equestrian section is thriving.
The equestrian section of PSUK provides:
* Annual training and competitions
* Support to police force sports clubs and specifically to assist riders establish equestrian sections within their force
Spread the word
It's not just those currently working for GMP that can get involved, it's friends, family, retired staff and officers. We're a welcoming group and can chat all day about anything horse related.
If you are interested in joining or would like to know more please email GMP equestrian team <GMPequestrianteam@gmp.police.uk> which is an inbox that all 6 members of the committee have access to 24/7
