National Championships held in Norfolk May 2011

from left to right
Chief Constable Phil Gormley (Norfolk) Peter Stanyer ( Retired GMP) Sally-Anne Gooch (Director of Group Sales, Potters Leisure Resort)
At the end of a three day tournament Peter Stanyer reigned victorious against the other competitors in the Retired Billiards competition where Police Forces from all of the UK were represented.
Peter was very pleased with winning the Ken Shirley Cup as it has some great names on it such as past winners Ray Reardon and Ken Shirley. Ken was the English Amateur champion twice and World Amateur champion in 1979.
Peter said "To get my name on this Cup is great. It took me three years of practice at billiards, and a bit of luck of course, but to get the high break of 54 showed I was playing ok."
For more information Ken Shirley click here
Also competing under the banner of GMP were;
Bob Hilton - Darts
Vicky Tunnah - Table Tennis
Tony Crompton - Billiards
Brian Sweeney - Retired Snooker
Paul Saunders - Snooker
While there were no other GMP wins Brian Sweeney (retired GMP) managed a very respectable second place at the Retired Snooker competition that he has played in, and won on occasions, for many many years. Brian was tipped as the favourite this year but unfortunately it wasn't to be. As runner up he will automatically go through to next years National finals as will Peter Stanyer.
