GMP Cricket Section
GMP's cricket team were drawn away at Strathclyde on 26th May 2010
in the first round of the Police Sport UK (PSUK) cup.
Captain Paul Giannasi led GMP's finest over the border to a ground just outside Glasgow.
Starthclyde batted first on a warm but overcast day. An impressive piece of opening bowling by PC Chris Harding-Clarke saw Chris break the off stump in two to dismiss the Starthclyde opening bat. He was supported at the other end by PC Dave Morrell who bowled a nice tight line to restrict the early stages of the game. There was some nifty wicket keeping by PC Iain McLellan who took some outstanding catches. This helped restrict Strathclyde to 122 all out. GMP's opening batsmen PC's Chris Costa and Darren Howarth made a great start for GMP scoring 46 and 25 respectively. GMP lost a couple of wickets in quick succession but were seen home by Sgt Gregg Anderton and PC Chris Harding-Clarke to ease past the Strathclyde score.
The cricket team have now got a tough second round game against Nottinghamshire.
