Chief Executives Page:
Membership of the Greater Manchester Police’s Sports & Social club is an important benefit for many serving police staff. GMP sports & social clubs’ CEO Darren Butterfield answers a few questions regarding some exciting changes for the members.
Q: So Darren what is the latest news?
A: GMP Sports & Social Club is really having a push on behalf of its members and working harder than ever to ensure its members receive the benfits that they expect. This will be evident by the new website that we now have, that will also shortly be linked throughout the UK to our colleagues in other Forces. This means that not only will you get a chance to benefit from discounts from within GMP Sports & Social Club and surrounding areas but also other Force Sports & Social Clubs around the country while visiting their respective areas.
Q: what are the benefits of membership?
A: Once you join, and use the membership services area, it becomes apparent. Just a couple of benefits used during the year can return the equivalent of your annual subs and for many people far more.
Q: Tell us a little more about the new benefits area?
A: The new benefits area will give access to many more benefits currently available to GMP sports & Social Club members. When you travel to Scotland, Ireland or Wales do you leave your membership benefits behind?......not anymore! As more and more Forces take advantage of the BRAND NEW membership benefits portal you will find that as you travel around the UK you will be able to use the exact same benefits that your colleagues in other Forces have already enjoyed in their home ground.
Q: It’s great to hear that you are extending the benefits to retired officers. How do they take part?
A: Retired members will have already spent, for the most part, 30 years service within GMP and deserve the title “Honorary Member”. Due to that well deserved status they will obviously be able to use all of the membership benefits available to paying members of the Force Sports & Social Club. Here’s an example; take the grand children to a theme park and save a substantial amount......that’s the small payback that the sports and social can give for the years service that they have given. And there’s no membership cost if they have left GMP service completely. Fully retired members of GMP have the right to use any of the Force Sports & Social Club facilities, both online or socially, and I would welcome any communications with any respective member that has any questions regarding this. My contact details are Darren@gmpsportsclub.com or Tel: 0161 856 1763.
Q: What events do you coming up at Hough end that our readers might like to attend?
A: There are events throughout the year that appeal to all members of all age groups. We do, however, appreciate that many many members don’t live close enough to visit the club socially. Would you believe we actually pay towards travel for parties of 10 or more wishing to attend the club for a social event. This can be pre-arranged, and discussed, by contacting Jacqui Stamper, Business Manger on 0161 856 1796 or business@gmpsportsclub.com.
Q: How is GMP Sports & Social Club faring verses the other forces?
A: GMP are a major player within the UK Police Sports and Social clubs and as Chairman of the National Police Clubs Forum, where all UK Police Sports and Social benefits and contacts are shared between all the forces in attendance, I can honestly say that GMP will continue to go from strength to strength to ensure ALL members of any Police Force Sports & Social will receive the same benefits as others around the country.
Q: How can readers join or find out more?
A: You can take a look at the BRAND NEW website that will be added to “as we go” or you can contact Gill Smith on either 0161 856 1798 or email gillsmith@gmpsportsclub.com or simply go to the membership form section of the website, download and fill in the appropriate form, and send it to us. It has to be signed due to payroll rules which is why it's not an online form.
