The Royal Ulster
Constabulary Athletic Association in conjunction with Abbey
Insurance Brokers Ltd set up an insurance scheme in April 2003
to provide serving officers, support staff and their families,
who are members of the Association with competitive
car,
home
and travel insurance.
The scheme has grown from an initial turnover
of £30K per month to its present level of £400K + per month.
During the last 2 years the scheme has been
launched within Strathclyde Police Recreation Association and
South Yorkshire Police Sports and Social Club and is now
available in Greater Manchester from 15th January 2007. The
scheme is underwritten by Prestige NIG, a subsidiary of Royal
Bank of Scotland.
The operation is run from the RUC Athletic
Association site at Newforge Country Club and is manned by fully
trained security cleared staff who provide a friendly and
confidential service to its customers. Each force is served by
dedicated staff, allowing us to build personal relationships
without the need for a call centre operation and annoying
automated telephone systems.
As demonstrated by the phenomenal growth of
the operation, the customers find the friendly, reliable service
is matched only by our competitive prices. Not only do take up
rates continually exceed industry standards, renewal rates also
constantly run at 95% - a figure well above the norm.
Marketing is carried out by 2 full time
Executives who visit stations on a daily basis to promote and
explain the scheme to the members. Occasionally the Marketing
Executives are accompanied by the Insurance Manager who provides
live quotes within the station.
As already stated, all staff are fully
security cleared and all records are held at our secure site at
RUC AA. The site is manned by security personnel 24 hours a day,
365 days a year.
The personal details of
our customers are not available to any other sections within
Prestige NIG or Royal Bank of Scotland, this gives the added
benefit that no cross selling can take place from the details
retained at the Newforge complex therefore reducing the vast
amounts of unsolicited junk mail which emanates from many
insurance and financial services companies.
